Are you tired….

Date April 22, 2008

…. of me talking, twittering, texting, and blogging about the DRIVE Conference?

If so, I’m sorry about that.  Along with a couple other projects and the normal Sunday to Sunday happenings, DRIVE is completely consuming my thoughts, time, and energy at work….. not a whole lot of margin in my work life right now.  Everything is really coming together very well though.  We have an amazing group of volunteers, contractors, and staff that are really working their butts off to pull all of the pieces of production together.  All of the planning and strategizing comes down to these two weeks leading up to the conference as we piece together the set, configure video systems, tune the PA, place light fixtures, and all of the other bazillion things that have to be done.  And that’s just the production side of the house.

I’m really excited to have everyone from all of the campuses involved in this process.  We live in our own worlds a lot of the time, so it’s good to have had input from everyone along the way, and it will be great to work alongside each other for the next couple of weeks.

See you there.

DRIVE Conference Schedule

Date April 16, 2008

If you aren’t coming to the DRIVE Conference, you need to.  Register HERE.

If you are coming to DRIVE and you work in production and want to find out more about why and how North Point does production, there will be a bunch of opportunities.  In addition to the breakouts, there will also be some round-table discussions, where a bunch of us can sit around tables and just talk.  I am really looking forward to this opportunity to not only answer questions, but to collaborate with others on ideas and just get to know each other.

Here’s how you get in on a round-table…  When you check in, you’ll get tickets for the breakout session you’re already signed up for.  At any time after that, you can exchange your breakout ticket for a round-table ticket.  However, space is very limited for the round-tables, and it’s first come, first serve.  So if you’re really wanting to attend a round-table, make sure you exchange as soon as you can.

If you’re coming to DRIVE focused on production, here’s my suggestion for your conference schedule…

5/5 7:30PM - Main Session
5/6 8:30AM - “The Tech Side of the Worship Service” - Round-Table
5/6 10:00AM - “The Use of Video Elements in the Worship Service” - Round-Table
5/6 12:30PM - “How Did You Do That?” - Breakout
5/6 2:00PM - Main Session
5/6 4:00PM - Road Trip - Seriously, DO NOT MISS THIS!
5/7 8:30AM - Service Programming Q&A - Breakout
5/7 12:30PM - Main Session

Hope to see you there!

If you work in a church, you cannot miss this conference.

It’s three weeks out… you still have time to make travel plans and get here.  Not only will the main sessions be great, you will not want to miss out on the breakout sessions.  I’ve had an opportunity to sit through a number of the talks over the past month as people have been preparing, and they are GOOD.  Everyone is really getting down to the nuts and bolts of how and why we do things the way that we do them.

Go to www.driveconference.org and register TODAY.

If you’re interested in knowing more about North Point’s production, I’m going to be posting my recommended conference schedule later on this week, so make sure you check back for that.

Sunday April 13

Date April 13, 2008

Overall, today was a great day at North Point.  It was a little chaotic due to some last-minute illnesses and some personnel shifting that ended up with me needing to tech direct.  So, I was unfortunately not able to catch any pictures this morning.

Today was the first part of a two-part series with Jeff Henderson, our Buckhead campus director teaching.  Jeff is really great to work with and always comes to the table with some great creative ideas and he is incredibly accommodating to the production side of the house… he literally rehearsed one segment of the message for us four times this morning so that we could make sure it was just right by the time we got to the real deal.

Here’s the quick service rundown:

10B4
Opener: “Letter to Me” - Brad Paisley
Welcome
“Salvation’s Chorus”
“Let Me Sing”
Baptisms
Title Package
Message

Some production wins for us this morning:

  • Our volunteer message team really did a great job with having a “guest” speaker and that adjustment from the “norm”
  • The production and media departments did a great job of collaborating on the wall that was made with a built-in, working plasma complete with video playing in the middle of the message
  • For the first week in about four, we had a flawless day with playback from the Ross SMS Server. We installed some patches this week that cleared up some issues, and the volunteers did an incredible job of calling and hitting the cues right on time, and there were a bunch of video rolls this morning
  • The studio mix for the opener fed to the West auditorium sounded great

For the next few Sundays, I will be down at Buckhead while Andy teaches live there in a five-part series titled, “Faith, Hope, and Luck.”  You can check out a promo for the series here.

I’m so sick and tired of it raining on my whole weekend…. I know we need the rain, but if I could choose, I’d choose for it to rain during the week…. but that’s just me.

Interesting Article about Twitter…

Date April 7, 2008

Ran across this post yesterday on Techcrunch.  I think it’s very interesting how often companies are looking at blogs and twitter feeds, etc. to find out who’s talking about them.  When looking through some of my blog stats the other day, I discovered that I had five or six hits from apple.com in Cupertino that had checked out this post from me about XSAN last week.

If you have some spare time, check out Tweetscan (mentioned in the Techcrunch article)…. you might find somebody talking about you.

Meds

Date April 3, 2008

As I was cleaning out my backpack earlier today, I came to the realization of how many times I’ve been sick in the last couple of months.  This is very unusual for me.  I think it must be Vicki’s pregnancy that’s causing this.
